Brief History

The real estate in Bennet was born when a major railroad hoped to connect Lincoln to Nebraska City. One of the region’s settlers, William Roggenkamp, offered his land if the railroad created a town where the rail would run. The railroad agreed, creating Bennett Station. At some point, someone dropped the last “t.” That moniker became the town’s official name in 1881.

After an initial business boom in the early 1900s, farming became the area’s major enterprise. Today, a large portion of the population still commutes for work.
